  1. Report on Lake Champlain Transportation Tabletop Training by Tim Kelly

GRAND ISLE CERT COMPLETES SHELTER MANAGEMENT COURSE

The Grand Isle County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) completed Shelter Operations and Shelter Simulation courses offered by the Northern Vermont Chapter of the American Red Cross.  The course was held at the Ed Weed Fish Hatchery in Grand Isle on December 8, 2007.  The course provided instructions on operating and managing a shelter in the event of a disaster in Grand Isle.  The American Red Cross has primary responsibility for shelter operations in the event of a disaster.  The Grand Isle County CERT can now assist the ARC in such an event.  For information on joining the Grand Isle County CERT, contact Dick Trudell at 372-6442.

  1. Report on Lake Champlain Transportation Tabletop Training

Tim Kelly and Dick Trudell were appointed to participate as representatives of Grand Isle County C.E.R.T Team.  They shared verbally of the positive experience and feedback that was displayed to CERT.  It was noted that improvement in communication between emergency management directors and response teams is needed.  Also, Lake Champlain Transportation needs training.  Ferry boat captains have extensive training, but are not ICS trained.  To connect and meld with other response teams, they need to have same training.   LCT needs to integrate their training with response teams.

Resources available:  State Police has command post to communicate to radio frequencies of all teams
Summary:  Very good training.  CERT got visibility.
Jessica Stoltz suggested that CERT should be involved with the Grand Isle County Responders.  They see us as a viable resource.
CERT performed a serious role even at a lower level to free up more experienced responders.  Dick said Tim did a wonderful job at the meeting.  First responders noted they should include us in their response.
Vanetta Darby asked if Tim Kelly would write a brief overview for the website.  Tim Kelly agreed to submit a report.
